Title: Sword of the Highlands
Author: Veronica Wolff
Review: This follows "Master of the Highlands" but it takes place prior (Ewen and Robert are young men in this book). The time travel object this time is a portrait of James Graham, First Marquis of Montrose, the hero (in this story as well as in real life). Magda Deacon, an art curator at the Met in New York, falls through the painting when she touches it and lands on James. Some of the wars he was in (in real life) are presented in this novel. Of course, in real life, he was hanged, but not in this book (Magda does the "Romeo and Juliet" ruse). Many of the characters who will feature later in the series are present in this one. Unlike Lily in the last book, Magda is given a way home, but she decides to stay with James. This book is available via SuperSearch.
