Springfield Had No Shame (Movie)

Event Type: Program
Age Group(s): All ages
Date: 8/14/2018
Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Time: 8:00 PM
On the evening of August 14,1908, a race war broke out in the Illinois capital of Springfield.
On August 14th, 2018, the 110th anniversary of the event, interested citizens and visitors are invited to gather at the Lincoln Library for a screening of "Springfield Had No Shame" at 6 p.m.
This is the only documentary about the race riot currently available and the events that it portrays continue to affect our community. There are currently many efforts underway to memorialize the 1908 events. A librarian from the Sangamon Valley Collection will give a short presentation about these current efforts, followed by a discussion.
We invite you to view this film together and we hope that you will stay for the discussion. The ways we think about and remember the more challenging aspects of our shared history are just as important as the way we celebrate our triumphs.
