Event Details

Lillie Samuels’ interest in genealogy research began in 1984. Even though she did not know many of her ancestors, understanding the era they lived in helps her appreciate their contributions, strengths, and sacrifices. The Underground Railroad to Florida is one of her research topics. Many slaves wanted to escape harsh treatment and traveled north, but some slaves escaped and traveled south to Florida. Seminoles needed the slave’s assistance in many ways, and in most cases even though still enslaved they were provided a better life.
