For anyone who has ever wondered why there is an elephant-shaped building on the beach in Margate, a concrete ship stuck in the sand off Cape May Point, or a town called Ship Bottom, “The History of the Jersey Shore” is a colorful tour of coastal history, from the long-ago days of pirates, shipwrecks and lighthouses to the founding of today’s most popular summer resorts.
