It’s holiday time again, and you know what that means…it’s time for the Annual Cliffdale Gingerbread House Contest! If you are planning an entry this year, we are offering a workshop that will demonstrate basic construction and decoration of gingerbread houses. To further assist potential builders, we have identified web sites that feature gingerbread house recipes, and sites that have gingerbread house patterns. And, don't forget to check out the awe-inspiring photo gallery from the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina, which hosts the granddaddy of all gingerbread house contests! Elementary Battle of the Books: Book Discussion

All third, fourth and fifth graders are invited to a book discussion, activities and friendly competition based on the Elementary Battle of the Books list. This month we will highlight Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech, Clementine by Sara Pennypacker, Mick Harte Was Here by Barbara Park, The Monsters of Morley Manor by Bruce Coville, and The Beloved Dearly by Doug Cooney. A representative of le Marquis de Lafayette Chapter of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution will be in the Local & State History Room at Headquarters Library from 4:30 pm -5:45 pm on the 1^st and 3^rd Sundays of the month beginning August 2. The representative will conduct short lineage/genealogy workshops and provide application preparation assistance for anyone who may want to join the organization.
