Clifford Oliver Mealy re-creates the persona of Solomon Northup, a free African-American New Yorker kidnapped into slavery before the Civil War, whose story, first written as a memoir in 1853, is also a 2013 Academy-Award-winning motion picture. This performance, the first of 3 events for our Black History Celebration 2017 is produced by The Folklife Center at Crandall Public Library, and funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts-Folk Arts Program with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature.
