Established by the city in 1992 after the 1992 LA riots, the garden was not only a food source, but a symbol of the human spirit. Threatened by the pending sale of their garden, the farmers, mostly low-income Latino immigrants unite to fight the system, only to find social injustice and political corruption, racism and disillusionment. In the process, the farmers learn that they have a voice and right to be heard. It was nominated for a 2009 Academy Award.
