Annual "Dance is for Every Body! Showcase"

The annual "Dance is for Every Body!" showcase is 2 days of continuous dance presentations – all FREE and open to the public! One part entertainment, one part education, the showcase is a great outreach project as Front Range area dancers, studios, companies, and teachers present 5 to 15 minute performances, works-in-progress, mini classes with audience participation, lecture demonstrations, or short dance films. Stop by for a little or stay the afternoon.

Go Club for Kids & Teens

Learn to play the ancient and mysterious board game known as Go. Developed 4000 years ago in China, the rules are so simple they can be taught in a few minutes--but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go boards are provided and take-home sets made of cardboard are available for free. Ages 5 and up.

Tellabration - a National Celebration of Storytelling

This annual event, which was started more than 20 years ago by the National Storytelling Network, headquartered in Jonesville, TN, is an opportunity to hear all kinds of stories from all kinds of local storytellers. The event in Boulder will be a kind of "drop-in" affair held in a new programing space in the main Boulder library's south building (Arapahoe Ave. entrance) Afternoon programs will be especially appropriate for kids and seniors, evening programs will be designed to appeal to the whole family or anyone who likes to listen to a good "yarn!"

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies is a program of BoulderReads! for children ages first grade through 14 years old who struggle with reading. The children are each matched one-to-one to their own big buddy who will meet with them weekly for 13 weeks. The big buddies are all CU students who receive college service learning credit for the time they spend working with their little buddies, and are trained by BoulderReads! to read aloud to their little buddies and help them identify their own tastes in reading. This great program is made possible by a grant from the Boulder Public Library Foundation, as well as by in-kind donations from the University of Colorado and CU students.

Lives Lived in Dance

"Lives Lived in Dance" is a film and interview series highlighting local dance luminaries. Hear the intimate stories of individuals who have made a significant contribution to the field of dance - the successes (and failures) that formed their professional lives. The series is designed to show the interested dance public how professional dancers arrived at a career in dance and what they felt as they navigated this difficult path.

The December 2nd guest is Nancy Cranbourne, teacher, choreographer, performer extraodinaire, and artistic director of Boulder's 40 Women Over 40 Dance Company. An actress as well as a dancer, Nancy is sure to have stories and memories that will tickle your heart and stoke the fires of your own creativity. Her company of more than forty women will have just finished a run of concerts at the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder. Thursday Lunchtime Theater

Now or Never Theatre presents Shadows and Journeys. This multi-media performance inspired by the culture and heritage of the Southwest integrates shadow theatre, acting, drumming, puppetry, masks and video projections in a unique blend of ancient and contemporary performance techniques. Geopolitics Discussion Group

The children are each matched one-to-one to their own big buddy who will meet with them weekly for 13 weeks. The big buddies are all CU students who receive college service learning credit for the time they spend working with their little buddies, and are trained by BoulderReads! to read aloud to their little buddies and help them identify their own tastes in reading. This great program is made possible by a grant from the Boulder Public Library Foundation, as well as by in-kind donations from the University of Colorado and CU students.

These weekly programs include rhymes, songs, and books as well as time for free play and informal discussion of infant and toddler development. Programs are designed to allow caregivers and their children time to relax and play together in a comfortable environment without distractions, thus Baby Time registration is limited to infants from birth to 18 months and Toddler Time is limited to toddlers from 18 to 36 months; older siblings may not attend. Drop-In Playtime for Babies

The facilitated program (advance registration required) lasts from 10:15-11 a.m. The space and materials will be available for Drop-In Playtime from 11-11:30 a.m.
Parent/caregiver may register for one class per month. He or she may join the waiting list for the other weeks that month, if desired. EVEN IF CLASSES ARE FULL, all parent/caregivers of the appropriate aged children may attend Drop-In Playtime from 11-11:30 a.m. as often as they wish.

Babies (birth - 18 months) and their caregivers enjoy developmentally-appropriate toys and books in an informal setting.

The Great Indian Novel
