Jane Austen Society

Event Type: Book Discussion/Author Event
Age Group(s): Adult (19 and up)
Date: 12/3/2017
Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Time: 4:00 PM
Please join the North Florida group of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) for a freewheeling discussion of Emma, the novel and the character. Part fan club, part literary society, JASNA regional groups meet throughout the U.S. and Canada to discuss Jane Austen and her works.

As Jane Austen was writing her famous novel Emma, she said she was creating "a heroine whom no one but myself will much like." As essayist Elaine Bander describes her, "Emma is snobbish, complacent, manipulative, and a terrible bossy-pants." So how come millions of readers (and movie-watchers) love her anyway?
